The Department of Environmental Science at Aarhus University, Roskilde, Denmark invites applications for a positions as full professor in environmental and/or ecological economics. The position is to be filled by October 1, 2018 or as soon as possible, subject to negotiation. For the right candidate the faculty will be able to provide a start package to ease the transfer of a research group. 
 
The Department of Environmental Science  
The Department of Environmental Science is an interdisciplinary department under the Faculty of Science & Technology at Aarhus University. The expertise ranges from physics, chemistry, microbiology and mathematical modelling to social science, geography, economics and policy analysis. Both basic and applied research is conducted related to some of the major challenges facing society, such as pollution and pollution control mechanisms, management of land, soil, water, air and biodiversity, protection of ecosystem services, climate change, and energy systems. Advisory services within these areas are offered to ministries and other stakeholders. Currently, about 140 staff and PhD-students are working at the department. The selected candidate will be affiliated with the Environmental Social Science research unit. The unit employs approximately 20 staff, focusing on interdisciplinary analysis of the interlinkages between the environment and society from political science, economics and sociology perspectives. The strategic foci of the unit include environmental policy development, regulation and instruments, understanding of actions and actors in policy formulation and implementation, spatial integrated modelling as well as policies and economics of ecosystem services. The results from the research are used for dissemination to the research community, in advisory services to decision makers as well as for teaching. 
 
Description of the position  
The selected candidate is expected to:  

  • Take a leading role in further development of the externally funded environmental economic research  
  • Develop and enhance interdisciplinary collaboration within the department, and bridge with other departments at the university, as well as relevant national and international research communities 
  • Take part in advisory activities of relevant regulatory authorities (national and EU) and private organizations, as lead and/or in a team with other researchers 
  • Take a leading role in talent development within environmental economic by supervising graduate (Master and PhD level) students and post docs 
  • Take part in the development of a new teaching programme in environmental social science, as well as other teaching programmes and courses 
Qualification requirements  
The position requires experience within the field of applied environmental economics. The ideal candidate has experience in integrating social sciences as well as linking social and natural science approaches, is skilled performing quantitative analyses, and has a proven ability to develop methodological and/or theoretical approaches in relation to environmental economic analyses. Furthermore the candidate is expected to have strong international networks and capabilities of building networks at international and national level.  
Applicants should have several years of highly productive post-graduate research after completed PhD, and strong publication experience. A significant track-record of successful external research funding, as well as a significant publication record in high-level, international, peer-reviewed journals are required. Publications with high-level publishers (according to BFI (The Danish Bibliometric Research Indicator) of the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science) are also recognized. 
 
A demonstrated research leadership and ability to attract large research projects and to successfully supervise PhD students and Master theses /Bachelor projects is required. Experience in conducting consultancy/advisory projects and/or developing and delivering high-quality undergraduate/graduate teaching is desirable.  
 
The successful applicant must have proven extensive international research collaboration (e.g. joint papers and proposals) and have an ability to provide inspiration and guidance for colleagues. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to be enthusiastic about working in an interdisciplinary academic environment. The position, therefore, requires a highly motivated scientist who is comfortable working in teams. 
 
The qualifications of the applicants will be assessed by an expert panel according to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Executive Order no. 284 of 25 April 2008.
