Professor in epidemiology and register-based research

A position as professor in epidemiology and register-based research is vacant at the National Institute of Public Health(NIPH) (http://www.si-folkesundhed.dk/), University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Copenhagen.

Our ambition is that our knowledge creates public health. To achieve this goal, we want to strengthen the core competences of the institute regarding classical epidemiological research, both regarding methodological development and strategic and application-oriented public health research. NIPH has a long-standing tradition of register and database research, and we are operationally responsible for a number of registers and databases on the basis of which we conduct research. Our activities also include research based on the linkage between other registers and databases in the health sector and other sectors - primarily registers and databases in the Danish Health Authority and in Statistics Denmark. The professorship will be expected to strengthen the institutes profile of epidemiological and register-based research.

At the National Institute of Public Health, we are determined to research in topics that apply to major public health challenges – and to being among the best in utilizing the methods that support that research.

The applicant must have a strong academic background as associate professor or equivalent and must be able to demonstrate significant contributions to development of epidemiology and public health research. Broad research qualifications for further development of our register-based research will be expected. Qualifications must be documented by published papers of international standard.

The professor will also be expected
- to participate in knowledge exchange with society,
- to participate in raising external funding,
- to be responsible for the educational guidance of post-docs and PhD students, and
- to participate in assessment of students at BSc, MSc and PhD levels.

Furthermore, management skills as well as strategic qualifications are desirable.

The applicant must be able to document:

    Research leadership
Broad experience with basic and applied epidemiological research
A broad portfolio of teaching in public health research methodology (epidemiology, demography, and biostatistics)
Experience with traditional university-related tasks such as PhD supervision, study management and an international network in research

Publications of high-quality research in international journals with high impact. Applications with a strong profile in epidemiology and experience with register-based research will be preferred.

The professorship entails development of a research area in close cooperation with not only epidemiologists, but also statisticians, sociologists and a broad spectrum of other research areas.

Further information can be obtained by contacting director Morten Grønbæk, mg@niph.dk, +45 6550 7700.

The successful applicant for the professorship will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. Applicants will be informed of their own assessment by the University.
