Professor in Software Engineering and Head of Section

At DTU Compute (Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science) we are committed to taking digital leadership. We do so through excellent research and education, based on intensive collaboration across our sections that perform basic, strategic, and applied research in a unique combination of mathematics and computer science.

If you are ready to take a leading role in defining, developing, and promoting the future IT profile at DTU Compute as part of our department leadership group, you may be our next Head of Section and professor in Software Engineering.

Each section and research field at DTU Compute should represent high-performing international research as well as a sound working environment in which talent and ideas can foster and thrive. As a department, setting the digital future, we are concerned with representing that future ourselves. As a Head of Section, you become part of the Department’s leadership group designing and defining the organisation in a modern and innovative environment, and setting the way forward for the future generation in academia as well as beyond our own organisation.

Inter-sectional collaboration is paramount to us and our success. Our unique organisational form is strengthened and gains value through our heads of sections’ ability to encourage section members to engage in collaboration between our sections and research fields.

We also have strong collaborations with other DTU departments and extensive collaboration with national and international universities and industry—both concerning research projects, graduate theses, PhD projects, and research-based consultancy.

In the Software Engineering research field, we are concerned with both the design and evaluation of IT artifacts, ranging from conceptual models, methods, techniques, and tools used for the systematic engineering of software and processes to entire software systems. Our design-oriented research focuses on adaptive software systems flexible process-oriented information systems, neuro-adaptive software systems as well as context-aware cyber-physical systems), safety-critical systems, and domain-driven software engineering. Our empirical research is concerned with the intersection of human, task, and IT artifacts to ensure fitness for purpose.

In recent years, we have seen software dramatically changing our society and how people, businesses, administrations, and governments interact with each other. Major parts of the software are run on smart devices, and parts of the software are run virtually all over the world. This has created completely new challenges as well as new opportunities for software development—with increased requirements on its reliability as well as on its security and privacy. These changes affect wide areas of Software Engineering, covering everything from the theoretical foundation to practical implementation.

As Head of Section, it is vital that you apply and develop the competencies of the section members. This requires leadership skills, but also relevant knowledge of the field in question. Therefore, the ability to combine theoretical knowledge with practical development within one or more of the following (or closely related) areas is required:

  • Formal Methods in Software Engineering
  • Process Engineering
  • Practical and Empirical Software Engineering
  • Modelling and Engineering
  • Security and Privacy in Software Engineering
  • Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering
