Are you looking for an exciting role as part of a global team of physicists, engineers and software developers defining the new field of Quantum Computing? 


Microsoft is researching the future of Quantum Computing, including theory, hardware, and software. As a part of this effort we are developing new UHV-based hardware dedicated for quantum material fabrication. We are on the cusp of an accelerated effort in quantum computing and this position is an opportunity to get in at the start of this new intense phase. 


You will join a teams of research, hardware and process engineers dedicated to push the state-of-the-art R&D in epitaxy of advanced heterostructures made of dissimilar materials, controlled down to the atomic scale.

 

You will be responsible for hands-on growth, in-situ growth monitoring, growth development and design following industry proven DOE methodology, process optimization, process stabilization, data logging and data acquisition automation. You will participate in establishing baselines, quantitative metrology outputs and efficient work protocols on a unique multi-chamber custom-designed molecular beam epitaxy cluster tool, timely populate review the content of this advanced database system.

 

You will have proven hands-on experience in applied UHV-based (compound) semiconductor epitaxy and deposition, with device-level growth stack optimization and demonstrated high quality device output. You will understand and master use of all of the necessary in-situ sensor technologies and calibrations techniques.

Qualifications

• Min. MSc. in engineering, applied physics or materials science
• At least a few years of proven hands-on experience with epitaxy process in a UHV environment
• Proven process engineer experience on an MBE with a detailed track-record of successful growth process and calibrations, database management
• Demonstrated knowledge of materials science, semiconductor device physics, clean-room environments, UHV-related mechanical and electrical engineering
• Proven autonomous operation and participation in maintenance of MBE and most of the related UHV equipment: robotic process automation, plasma, electron guns, RHEED, mass spectrometer, ion-/turbomolecular-/cryo- pumps, sensors, leak-checking

• Experience in using, programming, debugging automated growth/hardware system as well as using standard plotting/fitting/statistical tools is essential.

• Knowledge and experience with some standard ex-situ characterization of morphological, structural, electrical properties characterization tools

• Experience in any of the following is highly appreciated: III-V semiconductor at the nanoscale, interface engineering, plasmas, metal epitaxy, clean-room device fabrication, atomic layer deposition
