READVERTISEMENT Postdoc in neuroscience for Steno Diabetes Center Odense

Steno Diabetes Center Odense (SDCO), the Department of Nuclear Medicine, Odense University Hospital, and the Research Unit of Clinical Physiology and Nuclear Medicine , Department of Clinical Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark, invites applications for a position as postdoc in neuroscience to be filled as soon as possible and for a period of 2 years.
Current research lines of the research unit includes examination of brain metabolism and structural changes using tracer techniques combined with advanced scanning modalities (PET/CT and PET/MRI).

Research profile and tasks:

Insulin resistance as seen in type 2 diabetes may promote the development of cerebral metabolic abnormalities resembling those seen in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). On this basis, AD has been suggested to represent a brain specific insulin resistant condition, also referred to as type 3 diabetes.

This postdoc project aims to study structural and metabolic changes in persons with AD in the presence or absence of type 2 diabetes and in comparison to age and gender matched control subjects. The project will include advanced scanning modalities (PET/MRI and MRI spectroscopy), studies of brain cerebral blood flow and amyloid load, and dynamic cerebral metabolic investigations. 

The successful candidate will be expected to have knowledge of various brain-scanning modalities, metabolic brain techniques and AD. In addition, he or she should have

• a PhD degree in neuroscience or a related area
• research experience documented by international peer-reviewed journal articles within the fields of neuroscience, preferentially dealing with studies of metabolic and structural changes in the brain
• excellent skills in reading, writing and speaking English
