Researcher/Assistant professor in Big Data in Livestock Production

The Department of Animal Science, Aarhus University, invites highly qualified applicants for a position as Researcher/Assistant Professor in Big Data in Livestock Production from 1 March 2021 or soon thereafter.

The position
We seek a candidate with specialist competences in data handling, mining, analysis and modelling combined with thorough knowledge on animal production systems. Furthermore, the candidate has considerable experience from dissemination work in relation to industries relevant for the research area of this position.

The department is in process of expanding its activities on data science, and the position has major emphasis on efficient and qualified use of the complex data created by the variety of both laboratory equipment and precision livestock technologies. The overall scope is to develop the scientific basic for integration and utilising different data types produced in research settings or in commercial herds, first of all in cattle, but also in other relevant farm animal species.

The candidate is expected to participate in on-going research activities, but must also take initiatives together with research and industry partners to ensure external funding. The main activity will be research-based dissemination to industry and society within the area of expertise as well as expert consultancy to the Danish authorities. Furthermore, the candidate must to a limited extent teach and supervise both students at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels as well as young researchers.

The candidate
Qualifications for the assistant professor level at Aarhus University include minimum two years’ experience at postdoc level with a relevant research profile and a strong scientific publication record in one or more of the areas of the position as described above.

Department of Animal Science (ANIS)
The mission of ANIS is to perform basic, strategic and applied research and innovation within the department’s core activities: nutrition, health and welfare. The activities make up the science-based foundation of ANIS’ teaching, public sector consultancy and collaboration with business and industry. The successful applicant will be placed in the Research Unit Health.

Place of employment and place of work
The place of employment is Aarhus University (AU), and the place of work is the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Technical Sciences, Blichers Allé 20, DK-8830 Tjele. Teaching activities are primarily conducted at AU-Campus, 8000 Aarhus.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
