Senior advisor in digital crop disease platforms

We are looking for a senior advisor to lead and further develop our international communication and dissemination strategy, databases and e-infrastructure supporting the Global Rust Reference Center, EuroBlight and other international pest and crop disease research platforms. The position is available from 1st February 2021.

Research areas
In this position, you will be involved in further development of tools and services as well as doing policy support nationally and internationally about food security and regulatory issues related to crop pests and diseases at both global and regional levels. You will work closely together with the Global Rust Reference Center and join the management of EuroBlight – a potato late blight network for Europe. We expect that you are able to collaborate with researchers from different fields, plant pathology, agronomy, agrometeorology, ICT and data management, and you can support the research at Department of Agroecology with state-of-the-art tools regarding FAIR data management and research e-infrastructures.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to:

  • Science based national and international policy support and dissemination of research results to authorities, industry and society.
  • Lead global data management and integration, statistical analysis, communication of research results (written and orally), and publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Fundraising for maintenance and further development of the databases and e-infrastructures supporting the Global Rust Reference Center and EuroBlight and similar collaborative research platforms.
  • Participate in management boards and contribute to implementing structures for data management and e-infrastructures supporting research and development.
The successful candidate will work within an international research environment that is specialized in agroecological systems, food security and environmental impacts of agriculture. The research questions and technical solutions to be addressed are conceived on the basis of past research at the department.

The successful candidate should have experience at PhD degree level or higher in agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, or similar. Specifically, we seek the following qualifications:
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated record with respect to dissemination, policy support or consultancies
  • Strong expertise in project management and proven ability of fundraising.
  • Ability to manage and collaborate in H2020 and similar international projects
  • Strong expertise in plant pathology epidemiology and decision support systems
  • Team spirit, but also capability to work independently
  • Proven publication record in international peer-reviewed ISI journals
  • Experience in handling large and diverse datasets.
  • High level in written and spoken English
  • The ability to manage, participate, collaborate and communicate in interdisciplinary research, and to participate in joint projects with other scientists
The Department of Agroecology
At the Department of Agroecology we study interactions between soil, plants, animals, humans and the environment in different agroecosystems for the production of food, feed, biomaterials and energy. Thus, we contribute to both fundamental knowledge generation and the attainment of sustainable production systems via state-of-the-art research, contracted policy advice, and education. We offer state-of-the-art laboratory, green house, semi-field and field scale research facilities, advanced computing capacities as well as an extensive national and international researcher network. Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
