Senior Nanofabrication Engineer

Responsibilities

The Quantum hardware team is seeking Fabrication Engineers and Senior Fabrication Engineers to develop new hybrid semiconductor-superconductor platforms for topological quantum computing.  These are a business-critical roles that will have direct and significant impact on one of the most unique teams at Microsoft, and requires a candidate to assist with the following: 

  • Design and Fabricate nano-electronic devices for topological quantum computing applications. 
  • Test and characterize quantum computing devices at room temperature and low temperature. 
  • Develop recipes for device fabrication to optimize performance and yield. 
  • Assist in optimizing design of quantum computing devices. 
  • Develop automatic testing methods for devices. 
  • Assist in training staff and students in nanofabrication. 
  • Assist in tool maintenance and repair.  
  • Coordinate with materials growers, cleanroom staff, and measurement staff to optimize workflow and device optimization. 

Key Responsibilities include: 

  • Develop unit nanofabrication processes and integrate them into a robust process flow for the fabrication of topological quantum devices. 
  • Develop standard operating procedures, maintain lot plans, maintain and review process control charts, and troubleshoot fabrication issues on demand. 
  • Train junior researchers on cleanroom fabrication equipment. 

Note that given the global scope of our team, limited travel may be required as needed. 

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: 

  • 4+ years industry hands-on experience with nanofabrication of solid-state devices. 
  • 4+ years’ industry experience with one or more of: thin film deposition (e-beam evaporation, thermal evaporation, sputtering, and atomic layer deposition), etching (dry and wet etching), lithography (e-beam and UV, mask layout design tools), and metrology (SEM, atomic forcemicroscope, ellipsometer, four probe resistivity) equipment, variable temperature electrical characterization (for semiconductors, dielectrics, and superconductors) and data acquisition. 
  • 4+ years’ industry experience with working in a cleanroom and following safety protocol. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills 
  • Strong desire to work in a collaborative international team – periodic travel to other Microsoft Quantum laboratory sites will be required 
  • Advanced degree preferred in mechanical/chemical engineering, or physics/chemistry, or related field.

Blusense Diagnostics is seeking an outstanding product design focused engineer with strong plastics knowledge to join our Cartridge Development team.

You will be designing and testing solutions for cutting edge-microfluidic consumables, sourcing prototypes making use of internal capabilities and outsourcing where appropriate. Delivering 3d models, drawings, technical documentation, and performing functional testing.

 

Your responsibilities

· 3D Design, prototyping, and test consumable product concepts for new medical devices

· Producing prototypes on in-house equipment including CNC milling in soft metals for hot-embossing tooling, direct milling or laser cutting in plastics and 3D printing.

· Sourcing prototype from outsourced services where appropriate, 3d-printing, injection moulding, and die-cutting.

· Experimental design followed by execution of test plan, including testing of biological samples in medical devices.

· At times, leading development efforts on specific programs while, at other times, being a key team member on other programs

· Design for Manufacture review and reporting.

· Experiment design and reporting to test and verify designs

· Design documentation in compliance with ISO13845

 

Your qualifications

· 3+ years of experience working on the design of plastic consumables or related products

· Bachelor (min.) /Masters in product design/mechanical/or industrial design engineering.

· Strong CAD experience with SolidWorks or similar.

· Demonstrable portfolio design skills are a must
