Are you passionate about shared decision making, implementation processes and capable of propagating your research? Are you able to set up, perform and facilitate research in shared decision making, improvement science and scaling up? Do you possess excellent communicative and collaborative skills, and are you able to cooperate with internal and external partners whilst working independently in the purpose of implementing and developing shared decision making in the Region of Southern Denmark? Then look no further!
The Center for Shared Decision Making is accepting applications for a Senior Researcher fulltime position in Shared Decision Making. The position is located at Lillebaelt University Hospital in Vejle, Denmark. The starting date of the position is Oct 1st, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Nature of the position
The tasks will be of many different kinds and must be executed on a high level with the everyday of patients and relatives as starting point. You will be a part of a Center anchored in the town of Vejle, but you should also assist the implementation of shared decision making within the entire Region of Southern Denmark. We are characterized by an informal work environment with talented and engaging colleagues. A positive tone, professional sparring and a high level of quality in the execution of tasks are highly valued. 

The main tasks will be: 

  • You are the specialist in shared decision making research,  implementation science and in the duties of an independent senior researcher  (including conceptualization of research projects, designing new research projects, application for external funding, collecting and analysing qualitative and quantitative data together with publication of research results) 
  • You will be given the main responsibility for research in implementation of shared decision making within the Region of Southern Denmark together with other research tasks in shared decision making
  • You will contribute to the development of the existing research group demonstrating an ability to collaborate within the research group
  • Research-based public sector consultancy guidance of administrators, politicians and other collaborators, and propagation of research results on all levels
  • You will be working closely together with colleagues implementing shared decision making in real life practice, and should be able to recognize improvement methodology and data, as a valuable contributor to research.
  • In addition, the post may involve a limited amount of teaching
  • The distribution between the various tasks may vary and will be planned in collaboration with your senior director

Your background and qualifications
The qualification requirements for the post of senior researcher correspond to the level that is achievable through employment as a researcher, and the qualification requirements are as follows:

  • Has documented clinical and research experience with shared decision making and implementation science
  • Documented scientific production/publication and research potential at an international level
  • Is an excellent communicator in both spoken and written English. Danish is not a requirement for employment, but if you are employed permanently, you will have to go through Danish lessons
  • Has knowledge of the development, evaluation and implementation of shared decision making within the healthcare system
  • Has knowledge of shared decision making outcome measures
  • The ability to contribute to the Center for Shared Decision Making’s national and international collaborative efforts, including the dissemination of research results and contribution to research-based innovation in society
  • Has relevant experience in project work and implementation work, and the ability to build a bridge between research and clinical practice

Key information on the Center for Shared Decision Making
The Center for Shared Decision Making works with a practical approach to the concept of ‘Shared Decision Making’, and our task is primarily to develop tools and approaches that can help patients decide which treatment is right for them.
The Center was in 2019 appointed a regional implementation center (before a one-site hospital based research centre) and now includes the entire Region of Southern Denmark, where shared decision making is being implemented at the Region's five hospital units. The Center has approx. 14 employees centrally at Lillebaelt University Hospital, consisting of a mix of both employees who work with the implementation of shared decision making, administrators, project managers, a post doc and three PhD students. In addition to the above central staff, we have a very large number of external partners both regionally, nationally and internationally.

Application, Terms of employment, etc.
Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Danish Regions and the relevant Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The Region of Southern Denmark is one appointing authority. Danish tax must be paid in relation to Danish conditions.
Generally speaking, the post of senior researcher is a permanent post, but it may be offered as a fixed-term post.

  • Complete list of publications, indicating which publications are most relevant for the position
  • Documented experience with research leadership

All non-Danish documents must be translated into English.

Working hours will be on an average of 37 hours a week, which provides the possibility of a good work-life balance.

Affiliation with the University of Southern Denmark
Depending on qualifications, an associate professorship may be applied for at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark. This requires a separate application process, which will only be initiated after employment as a senior researcher. Application for such a subsequent associate professorship will be assessed by an independent assessment committee and the committee will assess whether you are qualified to be an Associate Professor. Applicants applying for an associate professorship are requested to submit a teaching portfolio as documentation for teaching experience as well as supervision qualifications. However, as described above this possible adjunct position will only be initiated after the employment as senior researcher.
