Senior researcher in Social Design at Design School Kolding Design School Kolding is looking for a Senior Researcher to lead the effort in building an innovative knowledge environment in the field of social design. We are looking for a candidate on Professor or Professor MSO level. However, we will also consider accepting an experienced senior Associate Professor. Design for People Social design has been a main priority for Design School Kolding for many years, and we focus a great deal of both our teaching and our research and development activities on how to improve social conditions and create value through design. We regard design as a mediator for meaningful interaction between people, between people and new technology, and between people and the wider community.Design can make a difference in the development of new insights, methods and solutions in the welfare society. With the strategic focus area Social Design, Design School Kolding aims to contribute to the knowledge generation within the field that is accessible and adaptable into real products and services. The research is focused on welfare design collaborating with public institutions in education, healthcare, wellbeing as well as commercial organizations in different sectors. In September 2018, Design School Kolding launches the new MA programme Design for People that will educate highly specialized designers with social design as a fundamental mindset. The programme promotes dialogue, and applies diverse design methodologies with a strong focus on users. This approach enables the students to create new products, services and systems that are beautiful, profitable and enhance human interaction and foster meaningful societal relations. The job We hereby invite applications from relevant candidates with strong interest and documented research experience in the field of social design or a relevant and adjoining field. As a senior researcher at Design School Kolding, you have a commitment within research, development and education. The right candidate will strengthen the knowledge foundation by contributing to research strategy, knowledge production, papers, journal articles, dissemination and fundraising as well as contribute actively in the development and implementation of teaching. As senior scholars, candidates are expected to contribute actively to the social and academic lives at the department as well as participate in the guidance of doctoral students and junior faculty. Also, we expect active and constructive participation in the university's academic administration. To fulfill the requirements of the position, the candidates chosen are expected to be physically present on a regular basis.We expect that our new colleague builds strong relations internally and externally, and also ensure co-operation, partnerships, project fundraising and profiling of the Schools’ knowledge production, on a national as well as an international level. You will enter into the existing research and educational environment within the Lab for Social Design and the upcoming MA programme Design for People. About us Design School Kolding is an independent institution under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Science. The school offers education on Bachelor, Master and PhD level. Design School Kolding provides a joint design education with five directions: Communication Design, Industrial Design, Fashion and Textile Design, and Accessory Design. In addition, the education also contains interdisciplinary subjects within methods, aesthetics, design history, the history of science as well as form studies.Design School Kolding has approximately 85 fulltime employees. The school offers a dynamic work environment with engaged and dedicated colleagues from many different backgrounds which enriches the work and brings life to the old factory building which is constantly changing to suit the school’s needs. With the three overall strategic areas of social design, sustainability, and play, Design School Kolding is dedicated to improve the world through design. This also means that Design School Kolding has a strong focus on creating an education which is relevant and aimed towards the future labour market. Another way of strengthening the education is by having research aimed towards the five directions of the educations, as well as towards the strategic areas. The research thus supports and develops the education and simultaneously, there is a cross-fertilization between research and teaching with the researchers often using the student projects as data for their research. Design School Kolding prides itself of it's strong partnerships with relevant businesses and public authorities which offers unique learning abilities for our students as well as research and development collaborations for the staff. We offer a dynamic, internationally oriented education and research environment with close collaborations with external actors and research environments like University of Southern Denmark, the region of Southern Denmark and several businesses. The Facts The position is a full-time position. Wage level is relative to seniority by agreement with the State. Applicants must demonstrate:


  • Research qualifications on PhD level

  • Research qualifications at an international level

  • Ability to develop a research strategy for the subject area

  • Ability to bring research and development activities into play in relation to the design education

  • Experience in initiating and managing research projects

  • Ability to disseminate design research academically, in teaching, and in dialogue with the business community

  • Ability to collaborate with other educational and research institutions
