Senior Researcher of US foreign and security policy

DIIS invites applications for a permanent position as Senior Researcher of US foreign and security policy starting during the first half of 2020.

We are searching for candidates with a proven track record of high academic standards within the research field of US foreign and security policy, including transatlantic relations. We prefer candidates who have a thorough knowledge of American society and history, possibly from a longer stay in the US. Ideally, the candidate’s research should link to themes such as identity, culture, and ideology. In addition, we prefer candidates who are at the forefront of their discipline and have a strong international network within the research field.

The position is aimed at candidates who have:

  1. obtained their PhD within social sciences or humanities,
  2. at least 3 years of relevant work experience at the postdoc/researcher level, and
  3. qualifications at the associate professor level.
The selected candidate will contribute to the thematic and theoretical development of research, both within the unit and across DIIS. The specific research and analysis field will be decided upon in collaboration with the relevant unit coordinator.

The candidate must have experience with publishing and communicating research results in an honest, transparent and accurate manner (in accordance with the Danish Code of Conduct for Research Integrity), and, preferably, also with disseminating the results, e.g. to the policy community.

DIIS’ senior researchers have excellent opportunities for developing and disseminating their research to their target groups, as 60 percent of the time is reserved for research, 20 percent for policy research and ad hoc work, and 20 percent for dissemination, administration and research education (e.g. supervision). Across the various types of tasks, one fifth of the time is to be spent on income-generating assignments, as external fundraising activities are a collective priority of the institute. Hence, a willingness to actively pursue funding for research-based projects, consultancies etc. is expected, while documented results of successful external funding will be an advantage.
