Senior Scientist in Vitamin B12 Biology 971291

The IMPROVIT project within Department of Molecular Biology, Aarhus University is seeking to fill a senior Scientist position in the area of vitamin B12 biology. The position is available for 4.5 months starting May 1, 2018.

The IMPROVIT project is an Indo-Danish strategic research collaboration within Human Health Science Biotechnology, funded by The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), India and the Innovation Fund, Denmark.

IMPROVIT comprises multidisciplinary research from basic science to medical applications and entails a close collaboration between hospitals, academia, industry, and non-governmental organization. IMPROVIT investigates the bioavailability of vitamin B12 in ruminant milk and aims to develop a tailored nutrient from low-cost co-products of the dairy industry, able to mitigate vitamin B12 deficiency caused by socio-economic constraints in the developing world.

The successful applicant will continue the ongoing research project to examine the potential role of cows and buffalo milk in mending human vitamin B12 deficiency. She/he will have access to state-of-the-art research instrumentation through the Department of Clinical Medicine, Biochemistry, Aarhus University Hospital and Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University in a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment and close interaction between clinicians and basic scientists.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • PhD or MD degree in biological or biomedical sciences, with at least 5 first-author original research publication in a leading peer-reviewed journal.
  • Expertise in vitamin B12 bioavailability and molecular biology (cloning, protein purification, and vitamin B12 chemistry), is highly desirable.
  • The ideal candidate has previous training and extensive working experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • (1) vitamin B12 protein binding;
    • (2) influence of vitamin b12-protein interaction on vitamin B12 bioavailability;
    • (3) proficiency with methods suitable for detection of human B12 deficiency
  • Good communication skills, ability to advance a project productively and work independently are required.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
