Software Engineers (JAVA/C#) in R&D Front Office, Odense, Denmark

Universal Robots is an innovative company with a solid foundation of success and the worldwide market leader in collaborative robots. Our robots have revolutionized the way people work – not by making jobs redundant, but by improving productivity and creating a safer work environment.

If you want to be part of the journey you should apply for the position as Software Engineer in R&D Front office.

R&D Front Office is a highly skilled cross functional team responsible for maintaining our existing products. In close collaboration with the rest of our organization, you will contribute to Universal Robots maintaining its position as number one in collaborative robotic arms.

About the job:

R&D Front Office is a team of experts that collectively have a deep understanding of all aspects of our products, including mechanical design, electrical design, embedded software, controller software, high-level software, test systems and production setup. We get involved when a task cannot be resolved outside R&D. This may include bug fixes as well as implementation of small features. We also provide support to the Production and Service departments.

Your closest colleagues will be experts inside R&D, but you will be working with a lot of people in the rest of our organization as well.

Responsibilities:

As a software engineer in our team, you will be working on the top layer of our software which implements all user interface and domain logic that is not strictly related to real-time robot control. For example, it implements our Swing-based graphical user interface that runs on the robot’s teach pendant. Our top layer also implements services for integrating our robot with other machines, and it exposes an OSGi-based API that allows third parties to extend our software with UR+ plugins.

Some activities you are expected to be a part of:

  • Backlog grooming
  • Bug Fixing
  • Implementing new features

You will be working on a piece of software that distinguishes us from other vendors of robot arms. Our ambition is to make robot programming easier and more accessible than anyone else. We are constantly improving our tools and processes to ensure that we produce a product of the right quality. We welcome change and we expect you to do the same.

Your qualifications:

Your most important qualification is to have a mindset that is compatible with working in an R&D Front Office. You are willing to collaborate with others and you are able to adjust priorities as needed. You enjoy communicating, and you are effective at it, whether you are talking to another engineer, a technical supporter or a worker on our production floor.

Specific skills relevant for this position include:

  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming and software architecture.
  • Experience with continuous integration and the use of version control systems (specifically GIT).
  • It would be an advantage if you also have experience working with frameworks such as Swing, OSGi and Junit, and are comfortable working in Linux.

The ideal candidate has a strong Java or C# background, where C++ and Python experience are considered a plus, but not required. You may have years of experience with developing applications with Java or C#. Or you have recently completed a Master’s Degree in Software Engineering, Robotics, or similar.
We expect you to be flexible and a fast-learner and it will be a plus if you enjoy having variety in your daily tasks.

Exciting opportunity to put your own fingerprints

At Universal Robots, we have very high expectations for our employees, and in exchange we offer an exciting job in a dynamic and fast growing company with the opportunity to work with talented colleagues. You get a great opportunity to help make Universal Robots even more successful, having responsibility and taking responsibility. There is confidence that employees make decisions that benefit the organization. Here is an opportunity to join an exciting journey where Universal Robots builds the future. You are motivated by joining Universal Robots in the process of building its global organization and a strong market position in a constantly growing and changing environment.
