Staff Scientist/Principal scientist, Protein engineering and Platform innovation

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative, talented, and highly motivated scientist to join newly formed Platform Innovation group. The successful candidate will join a dynamic intercontinental team responsible for developing novel technologies to identify and optimize protein therapeutics and will interface with diverse therapeutic functions across immune oncology, autoimmune, infectious diseases and neuroscience. The candidate is expected to be up to date on advanced technologies for protein engineering and drug delivery, including localized intertumoral delivery and delivery across blood-brain barrier (BBB) and actively bring-in new concepts to continuously improve functional area capabilities and innovations. A track record of scientific creativity and accomplishments as evidenced by a strong publication record, patents and pipeline contributions is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise in cutting edge protein engineering techniques, protein structure analysis, biomolecular modeling, protein structure prediction and computational drug design
  • Contribute to the design and testing of novel engineering strategies for BBB penetration
  • Work closely with immuno-neurology team to identify therapeutic biologic candidates with enhanced ability to cross BBB and other methods to optimize brain exposure of biologic therapeutic candidates
  • Use structure-based approach to engineer unique molecules to achieve desired biological activity, stability and pharmacokinetic properties
  • Perform antibody humanization, sequence and in silico affinity optimization
  • Collaborate with our computational biology group to develop deep learning methods for prediction of developability properties on monoclonal antibodies
  • Work closely and interface collaboratively with other groups in a multidisciplinary company at Waltham and Denmark site
  • Author technical reports, patent applications, IND reports and scientific publications

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in biophysics, biochemistry, structural biology, chemical engineering, or related discipline
  • 5-8+ years of industrial experience in protein therapeutics drug discovery and development with a track record of biologics pipeline contributions.
  • Demonstrated hands-on expertise in bi-specific and multi-specific, Fc-fusion proteins engineering and optimization, knowledge of different bispecific formats and strong understanding of structure-function relationship
  • Extensive theoretical knowledge and practical experience with different techniques of large-molecule therapeutics delivery into the brain and ways to optimize brain exposure of biologic therapeutic candidates
  • Demonstrated experience in humanization of mAbs obtained from different species, antibody sequence optimization and designing antibodies with excellent biophysical and manufacturing properties
  • Deep understanding of protein biochemistry and state of the art methods of protein characterization
  • Understanding of patent landscape in the antibody space is a plus
  • Strong results-driven “can-do” personality with high level of enthusiasm, energy, and confidence
  • Excellent communication, time management, and organization skills

About Dragonfly

Founded in 2015 by Dr. Tyler Jacks, head of the Koch Institute at MIT, Dr. David Raulet, one of the world's leading experts in Natural Killer (NK) cell biology, and Bill Haney, a longtime tech entrepreneur and investor, Dragonfly Therapeutics was launched to harness the power of the immune system to provide breakthrough treatments for patients – especially in areas where there are no effective treatments, today.

The company develops novel first-in-class therapeutics designed to harness Natural Killer cells and other cells of the innate immune system which can provide direct killing of disease promoting cell types, and provide a unique therapeutic window beyond current therapies for treatment of cancer and chronic inflammatory diseases.
