Student assistant remote sensing

SANDHOLT develops new high-quality products based on satellite imagery and provides research-based advice on the use of satellite data in climate, water, agriculture, nature and the environment. Based on more than 25 years of international experience in remote sensing research and education, the company’s mission is to spread the use of the latest science-based methods to ensure that the potential for using satellite data is fully utilized.

We are looking for a student assistant to work on a number of innovation projects focusing on land surface processes – in particular related to moisture conditions including surface water stress, soil moisture and evapotranspiration. We are handling large amounts of satellite data, and apply process modelling tools as well as statistical analysis of data for testing and validation of our products. For the right candidate, it will be possible to conduct a student research project affiliated with Sandholt and/or our collaborators under the supervision of Professor Inge Sandholt.

The student assistant will – depending on qualifications and interests – be involved in data processing and analysis of primarily optical satellite data from the Sentinel suite of sensors.

The ideal candidate:

• A Masters degree student in applied physics or geophysics, earth observation, space technology, engineering, applied computer science, geography or similar

• Experience working with remote sensing data

• Good knowledge of statistics

• Understanding and experience of land surface processes an advantage

• Proficiency in software coding is expected (with python being preferable);

Role and Responsibilities:

• The main tasks will be data processing of Sentinel 2 and 3 for water stress assessment

• Perform validation of our satellite products based on in situ measurements

Job Type: Fixed term, part time, 10-15 hours a week. Flexible, taking exam periods into account.

Location: In April 2018, Sandholt will move to a new office space in Frederiksberg, close to Copenhagen University Campus, Denmark

How to apply: Please submit your CV and cover letter to Inge Sandholt mail@ingesandholt.dk by February 15st 2018.

More information: Please contact Inge Sandholt via e-mail, mail@ingesandholt.dk. Information about our current projects can be found on http://www.sandholt.eu . See also Remote Sensing Scientist vacancy.
