System administrator for bioinformatics HPC installation GenomeDK at Aarhus University, Denmark (951195)

A position as system administrator (AC-TAP) is open at Centre for Integrative Sequencing, iSEQ, (Aarhus Genome Data Center), Aarhus University.  
iSEQ was launched in 2012 as one of Aarhus University’s interdisciplinary centres, encompassing three of the university’s four main academic areas: Health, Science and Technology, and Business and Social Sciences. The overall aim of iSEQ is to integrate multi-layered biological sequencing data with comprehensive phenotypic and environmental data to increase the understanding of the complex molecular systems governing biological function and human disease. As of 2017, iSEQ forms the basis for a joint data center between the Faculties of Health, the Faculty of Science and Technology and Region Midtjylland, serving both research activities and personalized medicine activities  
The main activities of iSEQ are centred around the HPC installation GenomeDK currently with ~4500 cores and ~8PB of storage. At present, there are about 350 users from the fields of bioinformatics, biology and biomedicine working on genetic sequence data, proteins and more. We are looking for a Linux system administrator to handle tasks, such as:  

  • Manage users, groups and projects  
  • Develop, install and manage software on the cluster  
  • Advise users on the utilisation of cluster resources  
  • Facilitate the execution of clinical pipelines for personalized medicine  
  • Support AUs participation in the European network for bioinformatics infrastructure, ELIXIR  
  • Organize and participate in HPC and bioinformatics outreach activities, including participation in educational activities in HPC and bioinformatics  
  • The job requires extensive collaboration with the other system administrators and with the users from a variety of fields. To apply you must have PhD degree in a computer science or related areas.  
Required qualifications:  
  • Highly experienced with Linux systems  
  • Programming experience in a variety of languages, including Python, Perl, and Shell-scripts  
  • Experience building, installing and maintaining third-party software on Linux systems  
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills  
  • Excellent communication skills  
Preferred qualifications:  
  • Experience with job schedulers: OpenPBS, SunGridEngine or LoadLeveler.  
  • Experience with distributed file systems such as Lustre  
  • Experience in bioinformatics  
The position is permanent. The employment will be at Department of Biomedicine, and the work place of the successful candidate will primarily be at the Bioinformatics Research Centre (BiRC).
