Technical/Administrativ Supporter to research projects (AC-TAP) at the Department of Biomedicine

The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as a Technical/Administrativ Supporter to research projects within cardiovascular research group at the Department as per 1 January 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for 24 month.

We offer a vibrant international research environment where English is the preferred language in the laboratory, at meetings and at seminars. The Department employs some 450 people and covers a range of research areas within Biomedicine. We contribute to the Bachelor’s degree programs in medicine, molecular medicine, odontology and the Master’s degree programs in biomedical engineering and medical chemistry. Our infrastructure is well developed with modern laboratories, core and animal facilities. You will work either in the brand new ‘Skou Building’ or similar as we are in the process of modernizing our old facilities. You can read more about the department here and about the faculty here.

Your job responsibilities
The appointment will take place in the cardiovascular research group at the Department and you will be associated to the new cardiovascular phenotyping core-facility. The group consists of 2 professors and 2 associate professors, 4 laboratory technicians and a number of bachelor’s, master’s and PhD students, and international guest researchers.

You will be involved in various research projects within cardiovascular phenotyping and will be part of the Cardiovascular Campus. Your responsibilities will include, in particular, work on experimental animals, including mice and rats, chronic surgery, protocol design and establishing, data collection and analyses. An extra attention will be given to implementation of new experimental methods and approaches in cardiovascular phenotyping and disease modelling. You will independently perform telemetry measurements of blood pressure, ECG, EEG and blood glucose. You will also be responsible for in vivo imaging of brain circulation e.g. Laser Speckle Imaging, and ex vivo studies of small artery function.

You will report to Associate Professor, Vladimir Matchkov.

Your competences

  • You will preferably have experience with surgical procedures such as catheterization for telemetry, implantation of mini-pumps and cranial-window surgery in rodents.
  • You have academic degree at least at Master’s level, preferably within life science, veterinary science or medicine.
  • It is preferable that you have a Danish certificate to perform laboratory animal experiments at level B, or corresponding non-Danish courses in laboratory animal science for the EU functions A, B and D, and the former FELASA category C.
  • It is an advantage if you have an experience of applying for animal experiment permission from Danish or international authorities.
  • It is an advantage if you have experience from work in a research laboratory.
  • You are excited about development and implementation of new approaches into experimental praxis, and learn from other international research laboratories.
  • The working environment is international and, therefore, we expect you to possess good communication and interpersonal skills and to be fluent in oral and written English.
  • Knowing Danish or another Scandinavian language will be an advantage.
  • You are comfortable to work with many projects at the same time.
