Job description:
 
The Embassy represents (the interests of) the Netherlands in Denmark, the Faroe Islands and Greenland. The main focus of the Embassy’s team is on political and EU affairs, as well as on promoting trade and economic cooperation. As an important aspect of broader economic cooperation, attention is given to scientific and technological exchange and alliances.
The Policy Officer Economy and Trade keeps abreast of important economic developments in Denmark and contributes to the Embassy’s task to keep interested parties within and outside the Dutch government informed. He or she identifies opportunities in the energy, water and maritime sectors, develops relevant activities that strengthen trade relations and otherwise contributes to economic co-operation between Denmark and the Netherlands in these areas.
He or she will operate within the Economic cluster, headed by the Deputy Head of Mission and further consisting of the Public Diplomacy Advisor, who also covers the topic of ‘smart cities’, the Advisor on Agricultural affairs, a temporary Program Manager on agro-tech, and often a trade intern. The embassy office is located in the center of Copenhagen on the second floor of an office complex.
 
Results & Responsibilities:

  • Active monitoring of macro-economic developments and policy, the Danish position with regard to EU economic files, and developments with regard to Danish climate policy.
  • Contribute to reporting on this and identifying opportunities for bilateral co-operation.
  • Developing and maintaining a network in the Danish private sector, notably in the energy, water and maritime sectors, as well as mapping concrete Danish-Dutch trade and partnership opportunities.
  • Strengthen the image, in Denmark, of the Netherlands as a solid, high tech and climate friendly innovation partner in these sectors.
  • Initiate and organize related knowledge and trade events in Denmark, in close co-operation with Dutch governmental institutions and the private sector.
  • Ensure, in co-operation with the Public Diplomacy advisor, effective communication and public diplomacy strategies in support of Danish-Dutch economic relations.
  • Responding to questions from Dutch companies regarding doing business in Denmark.
  • Providing information to the Dutch government, upon request, on developments in Denmark in areas such as social affairs, education and health care.
Description of the ideal candidate:
  • Enthusiastic, curious, dynamic and a creative mind.

  • Externally and service oriented, an excellent networker and communicator (incl. on social media).
  • Good time management, able to work with deadlines and (occasionally) flexible hours.
  • Good analytical skills, able to convert complex developments and concrete information acquired from various sources, into to-the-point contributions to reporting and project proposals of which he/she oversees the consequences (including financial ones).
  • Teamwork skills, focused on co-operation and sharing information and networks.
  • Willing to take on administrative tasks, e.g. desktop research and online registration.
Requirements:
  • University degree, preferably at master’s level.
  • Insight in macro-economic developments.
  • Knowledge of, experience with and a network in the Danish economy, at public and private sector levels.
  • Familiarity with the Danish energy, water and/or maritime sectors, Danish climate policy and the relevant governmental institutions in Denmark, is of strong added value.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of, experience with, a network in, or affinity with the Netherlands and/or the Dutch private sector, is of strong added value as well.
  • Insight into and understanding of social-economic and social developments in Denmark.
  • Insight into the administrative frameworks in Denmark that are important for the various policy areas.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for conducting research, making evaluations and developing project plans. Some experience in event or project management.
  • Fluent in two of the following three languages: Danish, Dutch and English. Willing and able to achieve, within two years, professional proficiency in the third language.
  • Skilled in most relevant IT software and social media (notably FB, Instagram, Twitter).
