The Section of Forensic Chemistry, Dept. of Forensic Medicine, University of Copenhagen, seeks 2 research assistants


 
- For the development and preparation of PhD programs 
 
The positions are temporary positions for a ½ year, which is to be filled by the1st May, or by appointment. 
 
 
The positions
The positions relate to the preparation of forensic PhD projects in collaboration with the department's employees.  
One project will relate to the development and evaluation of screening methods in biological fluids for drugs with a focus on new substances (NPS - new psychoactive substances). In silico methodology for prediction of retention time, fragmentation and ion mobility parameters on the basis of molecular descriptors will be included. The project aims to improve the forensic detection of new psychoactive drugs by expanding existing drug databases. 
The other project concerns determination of drugs in hair in order to assess past drug exposition with focus on psychiatric drugs and drugs of abuse. The aim is to estimate reference values for drugs in hair.  
Knowledge of analytical chemistry and interest in development work is expected. The main analytical techniques in the laboratory are UHPLC-MS / MS and UHPLC-High-Resolution MS (Time-of-flight). Furthermore, a fully automated robotic system is used for sample preparation. 
 
By enrollment as PhD students, the applicants can apply for an additional three years of service. 
 
 
The Section of Forensic Chemistry 
The section carries out forensic examinations (alcohol, drugs and narcotics) for the judiciary and other public authorities, which make up the bulk of the section's activities. The section of Forensic Chemistry is one of three sections at the Department of Forensic Medicine (University of Copenhagen) carrying out research and teaching assignments according to ordinary university rules. 
 
The section has about 35 employees, including one professor, one associate professor, 10 forensic chemists, IT staff, 5 PhD students, 10 laboratory technicians and a number of thesis students. The department is equipped with modern instruments and IT facilities. The section is accredited to ISO 17025. 
 
 
The person and qualifications 
The typical candidate will be someone who is interested in analytical chemistry and toxicology as well as the techniques behind, and is thorough, careful and have interest in scientific work. It is also important that the new colleague has good interpersonal skills. It's the results that count, so we appreciate the diligence, efficiency and purposefulness. Fluency in written and spoken English is a prerequisite.  
 
Relevant academic education includes a master’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, toxicology or related fields. The applicant cannot hold a doctorate degree.  
 
 
Salary and terms of employment 
The salary and terms of employment follow the current agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the union of academics (AC). Negotiations regarding supplements follows the rules in the new pay systems under the State. The average working hours per week is 37 hours.
