Wind Farm Control Lead Engineer

Vattenfall is one of Europe’s largest electricity generators and producer of heat and operates in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. Our strategy is to reduce emissions from power generation with a road map to achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
 The Offshore wind industry is in rapid change, we are now entering the next level of integration and therefore we are looking for a Wind Farm Control Lead Engineer for our Offshore wind windfarm design team.
 

Overall purpose of the role
The Wind farm control lead engineer will be play a significant role in the system design department, a department responsible for a strong system oriented wind farm design department. The department has the task of driving the design of the overall performance of Vattenfalls new and existing wind farms. You will take part in driving and developing the system level windfarm control, translating the combination of features in the components of the design, into world leading overall system performance.  You will work closely together with modelling experts, R&D, SCADA department and our system roadmap team. Your work will drive the direction of our park designs and guide our business decisions as well as making credible pre-evaluation of new technologies on product, system and park level. The achieved findings and recommendations are essential to guide Vattenfalls technology planning and technology roadmaps in order to be able to develop, construct and operate the most cost efficient windfarms in the world.
 

Your responsibilities as a Wind Farm Control Lead Engineer:
 • Develop the area of windfarm control in all its aspects (electrical/loads/wake/losses) to make Vattenfall wind farms the most efficient in the world.
• Create and maintain an overview of potential WFC approaches, and mature them to be ready for implementation.
• Establish and maintain a close link between R&D, engineering and operations in the area of system performance optimization.
• Participate in the use and development of Vattenfalls technical modelling/optimization initiative. 

Your qualifications as a Wind Farm Control Lead Engineer
 Our successful candidate has an Engineering Master’s degree (or equal) with a relevant scope such as wind engineering, applied mathematics or Physics. Experience with the challenges the complex design of a windfarm is a plus, but depending on the candidate not an absolute must.
 We are looking for a strong visionary and analytical mind, that on one side can dig deep into system control methods and on the other side understands the business impact of the results, and see the bigger picture. Sitting in the System design department, a profound system understanding with multiple parameters and interfaces, embracing high complexity, is paramount.  You have a natural curiosity and strong personal drive to constantly challenge the perceived reality, and do you best to steer away from sub-optimal solutions.Your command of English is strong, both verbally and written.
