We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic assistant professor for a 4-year position to commence on 1 August 2024 or after agreement.

The position will include research and teaching within pig health with focus on clinical subjects. Both teaching and research may be conducted in private pig herds. Preferentially the candidate should have experience from clinical research in pig herds.

Our research

We are an inclusive and dynamic group of researchers performing high quality veterinary research to the benefit of pigs, pig producers and herd health management advisors. Our aim is to develop and customize diagnostic procedures, treatments, and management tools to enhance the health of pigs. The research is performed in close collaboration with other research groups in Denmark and abroad. Based on our research we deliver research-based teaching and scientific advice to The Danish Veterinary Consortium (DK-VET).

Your job

You must participate in the interdisciplinary and dynamic research environment within pig health. The main duties will be to conduct research within diagnosis, prevention, and treatments to enhance the health of pigs. You will take active part in the teaching at all levels and to supervise students at the master's and PhD level.

The assistant professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • research, including publication/academic dissemination duties
  • research-based teaching
  • sharing knowledge with society
  • participation in formal pedagogical training programme for assistant professors
  • research-based consultancy in The Danish Veterinary Consortium (DK-VET)

Furthermore, we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following skills and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in Pig Health
  • You have pre-graduate teaching experience within pig health
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • English skills written and spoken
Desirable experience and skills:

  • You have an active interest in collaboration with colleagues in related subjects
  • You are highly experienced in clinical research in pig herds
Place of employment

The place of employment is at the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment.

Terms of employment

The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 4 years. The start date is 1 August 2024 or after agreement.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 36,400 DKK/approx. 4,880 EUR (October 2023 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

The further process
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the hiring committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment by an unbiased assessor. Once the assessment work has been completed each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
