About the role

Maersk Energy Markets (MEM) is looking for a Renewable Fuels Advisor to help accelerate the growth and optimization of Maersk’s rapidly expanding renewable fuels portfolio.

MEM is part of the Energy Transition Division in Maersk made up of 150+ dedicated colleagues working on realizing Maersk’s ambitious 2040 Net Zero strategy.

With offices in New York, Singapore, Rotterdam, Geneva and Copenhagen, MEM is responsible for delivering cost-competitive energy to the group, including but not limited to marine fuel, aviation fuel, and carbon allowances.

MEM creates value through asset optimization and acts as a best-in-class fuel supplier to more than 200 ports globally and approx. 750 vessels. We source more than 10 million metric tones of fuel annually to Ocean from external suppliers and via our own supply chain. 

Through our commitment to become net-zero in 2040, our fuel mix will gradually turn green. This position will be part of driving the transition journey. 

We offer

An exciting position based in Copenhagen where you will be part accelerating the uptake of biofuels, green methanol, and other renewable marine fuels. You will report into the Head of Market Analysis and work alongside a team of dedicated analysts that supports Trading and Origination activities. You will embed into our Renewable Fuels Trading team to unlock trading value, support origination activities, and drive regulatory optimization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Integrated support to the Biofuel Trading team. Facilitate day to day trading operations and mass balance optimization. Advise Trading Desks of business opportunities derived from regulatory arbitrage.

  • Support development of long-term (multi-year) renewable fuel offtake agreements for biofuels and e-fuels.

  • Understand current and recognize emerging sustainability certification systems and legislation related to biofuels used in the logistics sector. Based on that you will provide specialist support for the biofuel and origination agenda and identify new business opportunities.

  • Gain in-depth knowledge and follow sustainability verification and GHG accounting certification schemes development at relevant level, communicate these to internal stakeholders, and influence the related regulation.

  • Support the development of trading and regulatory optimization strategies for cost effective deployment of renewable fuels (such as EU and IMO regulation).

  • Collaborate with Sustainability, GHG Standards, Regulatory Affairs and Legal and Compliance teams to develop and formulate policies and advocacy strategies. You also support other internal teams in various ways as an expert in biofuel sustainability certification systems and their practical implementation.

  • Who we are looking for

  • Minimum five years of work experience in commodities certification schemes, supply chains or logistics.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills to engage and drive clarity both before internal and public audiences.

  • Ability to prioritize and perform effectively in an area with high complexity and ambiguity.

  • Knowledge of the European market for low carbon fuels and regulatory frameworks.

  • Expertise with voluntary and national sustainability certification schemes.

  • Commercial acumen and creative mindset with an eye for detail.

  • Excellent communication skills in English. Danish is not required.

  • Additionally, we would value:

  • Basic understanding of life cycle analysis and greenhouse gas emission calculation concepts.

  • Experience managing sustainability management systems and operations within European markets, with priority for Netherlands, Spain, and Germany.

  • Experience with ISCC certification and understanding of the ISCC audit process.

  • Familiar with EU regulation such as RED, FuelsEU Maritime and EU ETS.

  • Awareness of North America regulatory framework for low carbon fuels.
